About Us

Thirubuvanam is famous for silks, and in Thirubuvanam it is famous for Thico Silks.

Thico Silks, since 1955

What we do

We concentrate on pure silk sarees with 100% pure zari that meet the expectations of our customers, in a wide range of collections.

Our mission

To produce a wide variety of designer sarees, as fine as the best silk sarees, to satisfy the expectations of our customers.

Our history

We have been in this field for over 66 years and are well known for our pure silk sarees.

Established in 1955, Thico Silks has spent more than six decades doing one thing well: pure silk sarees with 100% pure zari. A wide range of collections, designs and colours is available, and every saree is handled with care.

Every place has its own identity. Thirubuvanam is famous for silks, and in Thirubuvanam it is famous for Thico Silks. Years of hard work, smart work, experience, trust, quality and a dedicated team have made that possible.

All our silk sarees use 100% pure zari, and most are hand-loomed by our own weavers. The Society holds an ISO quality certificate. We use filature silk for both warp and weft, which gives high quality, shine, uniformity and lustre, and our silk is dyed in-house.

Who and where we are

The Thirubuvanam Silk Handloom Weavers Co-operative Production and Sale Society Ltd. No. Z.322 is the biggest co-operative society in Tamil Nadu, producing traditional silk sarees with elaborate designs using pure zari.

The Society is in the silk weavers' cluster of Thirubuvanam, about 9 km from Kumbakonam in Thanjavur District. Thirubuvanam is an ancient temple town, famous for silk weaving since the time of the great Chola rulers. The Society was registered on 12 November 1955, began commercial operation on 24 November 1955, and works from its own building, with sales outlets across Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry.

Our Design Committee travels the country researching new designs and styles, and monitors production at every stage, from buying silk yarn to the final quality check.

How a Thico saree is made

Our Design Committee follows every saree through five stages, from yarn to the final check.

  1. Silk yarn

Filature silk is bought for both warp and weft, for even texture and lustre.

  2. Dyeing

The yarn is dyed in-house, so colours stay true from one saree to the next.

  3. Pure zari

Only pure zari is purchased for borders, buttas and pallus.

  4. Weaving

Most sarees are hand-loomed by the Society's own weavers in Thirubuvanam.

  5. Quality check

Every saree is appraised before it reaches our showrooms and your door.
